If you want to dismantle a clock at some same you will have to separate the plates which most clocks have. Please make sure the power has been released from the mainspring first or the clock will explode apart. Most clocks have just two plates. These plates are usually joined together by four pillars. The pillars are usually fixed to the front (or bottom) plate by riveting, and to the back (or top) plate by screws or pins. Some very old, and often valuable clocks have pillars fixed by latches.
The next stage will need a steady hand. Lay the clock front or back plate on a suitable support. Unpin, unscrew or unlatch the pillars and remove the top (back) plate. The parts of the movement should nowbe revealed planted (proper techical movement term) in the bottom plate. If the parts have scattered all over the room its because you have forgot to release the mainspring.
